home of the brave (mural), 2024

home of the brave depicts a young migrant girl carrying only a flower, who is met by a riot squad, shields up and armed. in 2019, I wanted to depict the fear conjured in this country, the home of the brave, for people seeking shelter. it's heartbreaking but no surprise that the run up to another election is plagued with this violent fear that will no doubt cause state-sanctioned harm, as it has done for centuries.
